Chandigarh, March 23
The Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit in Amritsar has busted an alleged narcotics smuggling module, arresting two suspects and recovering 5kg of heroin in what officials described as a major breakthrough. In a post on X, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the preliminary investigations had revealed links to a Pakistan-based smuggler and a foreign-based handler believed to be coordinating cross-border drug consignments.
An FIR has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar, and further investigations are under way to identify the wider network. Officials said more arrests are likely as investigators work to uncover the full extent of the smuggling operation.
Punjab Police said it remained committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks and ensuring a drug-free and safer Punjab.
