All schools and colleges in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab will remain closed till September 7 as officials take preventive measures in the wake of heavy rainfall and flooding. In Himachal Pradesh, Secretary (Education) Rakesh Kanwar issued the order after widespread reports of landslides, falling trees, road blockages, power outages cases. Similarly, Punjab has ordered the closure of all government, aided, recognised and private schools, colleges, universities, and polytechnics till September 7. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said the directive followed instructions from Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to prioritise the safety of students and staff.
Bains, confirming the move in a post on X (formerly Twitter), urged residents to adhere to guidelines from local authorities as the state grapples with severe flooding.
