Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday condemned the Opposition’s move to submit a no-confidence motion against Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, calling it “extremely regrettable.” Rijiju expressed pride in Dhankhar, praising him for his impartiality in chairing Rajya Sabha proceedings.
Rijiju also criticized the Congress Party for disrupting parliamentary proceedings, suggesting that their actions were aimed at avoiding questions about George Soros. He urged Congress to stop obstructing the session and prioritize India’s welfare. “The people of the country are watching. Stop the obstruction, apologize, and make India a priority,” Rijiju said.
The Congress-led INDIA alliance, including over 50 MPs from Congress, Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Samajwadi Party, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and Rashtriya Janata Dal, filed the no-confidence motion against Dhankhar with the Rajya Sabha Secretariat. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh called the decision “painful but necessary” to preserve parliamentary democracy, accusing Dhankhar of bias in his conduct as Rajya Sabha Chairperson.
