Chandigarh, December 2
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Gaurav Gupta, a revenue Patwari posted in SBS Nagar district, for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. Gupta, who also holds additional charge in Fambra, was detained after a complaint from Kesar Singh, a resident of Garhi Sheru village in Ludhiana district.
Singh alleged that Gupta demanded Rs 20,000 for processing a land transfer case. The complainant claimed Gupta had already accepted Rs 10,000 and requested the remaining amount for the mutation of the land. Singh also provided a recorded conversation with the Patwari regarding the bribe demand. Following a preliminary inquiry, the VB set up a trap and arrested Gupta while he was accepting the bribe in the presence of two official witnesses. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been filed, and Gupta is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow. Further investigations are ongoing.
