Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer, Sibin C, held a virtual meeting on Thursday with Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers and SSPs from Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Barnala to review preparations for by-elections in four Punjab Legislative Assembly constituencies include Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal (SC), Gidderbaha, and Barnala. Sibin C directed district officials to heighten surveillance against illicit drug, liquor, and cash trafficking. He emphasized strict action against any attempts to influence voters through cash or goods distribution, stressing vigilance from 48 hours before voting until the election process concludes. Additional checkpoints will be reinforced, and officials were instructed to monitor the movement of outsiders in the constituencies closely.
To ensure transparency, the Chief Electoral Officer mandated 100% live webcasting of polling stations for real-time monitoring and instructed preparations for adequate facilities in counting halls. He reviewed arrangements for polling staff, including provisions for food, accommodation, and measures against cold weather at polling stations. Voter amenities, including drinking water, waiting areas, and restrooms, were also discussed to enhance voter comfort.
Deputy Commissioners and SSPs assured the Chief Electoral Officer of comprehensive preparations to maintain peaceful and fair elections. Special DGP Arpit Shukla and ADGP-cum-State Police Nodal Officer M.F. Farooqui also addressed officials, providing additional directives.
