Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with prominent technology industry leaders in New York during a Roundtable hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) School of Engineering. The discussions focused on emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, IT, Communication, and Semiconductor technologies. Attendees included Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google; Arvind Krishna, CEO of IBM and Noubar Afeyan, Chairman of Moderna.
The CEOs delved into the evolving global technology landscape, exploring how these innovations are contributing to global development, including in India. They emphasized how technology is being harnessed for innovations that could revolutionize the economy and human development.
Prime Minister Modi praised MIT’s efforts in organising the event and highlighted the importance of technology collaborations like the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (ICET) in strengthening the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to becoming the third-largest economy in his third term and encouraged the tech leaders to collaborate, innovate, and invest in India. Modi assured them that India’s strong intellectual property protection and tech-innovation-friendly policies would foster growth.
The Prime Minister further emphasized India’s transformation in electronics, IT manufacturing, semiconductors, and biotech, with the goal of becoming a global semiconductor hub. He highlighted India’s BIO E3 policy to drive biotech development and stressed ethical AI use through the AI for All initiative. The tech CEOs expressed keen interest in collaborating with India, recognizing its growing prominence as a global technology hub. They also acknowledged India’s startup ecosystem as a potential driver for new technological advancements.
MIT Professor Anantha Chandrakasan, the Chief Innovation and Strategy Officer and Dean of MIT’s School of Engineering, thanked the Prime Minister and the CEOs for their participation, reaffirming MIT’s dedication to advancing technology for global good.
