Yellow alert for thunderstorms and gusty winds issued across parts of Himachal

Shimla, June 25

The Meteorological Centre in Shimla on Thursday issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in several districts of Himachal Pradesh over the next four days and forecast a wet spell across the state till July 1. According to the weather department, the alert will be in force for Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur districts on Friday.
From Saturday to Monday, the warning will remain in effect for Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour are likely at isolated places in the affected districts, officials said.
Several parts of the state received light to moderate rainfall during the past 24 hours. Nargota Suriyan recorded the highest rainfall at 48.2 mm, followed by Ghamoor with 39.4 mm, Malraon with 33 mm, Sundernagar with 30.8 mm, Bilaspur with 25 mm, Solan with 12.5 mm, and Shimla with 11.1 mm. The weather department also reported a hailstorm in Sundernagar, while thunderstorms and lightning were observed in Shimla, Jubberhatti, Sundernagar, Kangra, and Murari Devi.
Among the temperature extremes recorded in the state, Una remained the hottest place with a maximum temperature of 37.2 degrees Celsius. Kukumseri recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 6.6 degrees Celsius.
The forecast of continued rainfall activity is expected to bring relief from the prevailing heat in several areas, while authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorm activity and strong winds in the affected districts.
