Additional lanes planned at Manali Green tax barrier to ease traffic congestion

Authorities are set to introduce additional vehicle lanes and traffic signage at the Green Tax Barrier near Aloo Ground in Manali to reduce congestion during the peak tourist season, Manali MLA Bhuvneshwar Gaur said. Responding to concerns about frequent traffic jams in the area, Gaur said the Green Tax Barrier often witnesses heavy traffic as lakhs of tourists visit Manali every year. The resulting congestion causes inconvenience to both visitors and local residents.

He said discussions with the administration have led to a decision to create separate additional lanes for tourist vehicles, local traffic, and larger commercial vehicles. New traffic signs will also be installed to streamline vehicle movement and improve traffic management at the barrier. According to the MLA, the existing boom barriers were installed based on the traffic requirements of an earlier period. However, with the significant increase in vehicle inflow, there is now a need for additional boom barriers. He said a decision on expanding the infrastructure is expected soon.

The proposed measures aim to ensure smoother traffic flow and minimize delays for commuters and tourists entering and exiting Manali during the busy tourism season.
