Patiala, June 9
Tension escalated in Patiala after several members of the 2600 Unemployed Apprenticeship Linemen Union climbed a high tower near Bhedpura village as part of their ongoing protest outside the Powercom head office.
The protesters have been demonstrating for several days, demanding employment opportunities and action from the authorities. While a group of union members climbed the tower in a dramatic escalation of the agitation, several others sat on a dharna near police barricades below and began preparations to establish a permanent protest site.
The situation at the protest location remained tense, with police and administrative officials increasing their presence and closely monitoring activities. Security arrangements were tightened in the area to prevent any untoward incident.
