Chandigarh, Jun 2
A minor fire broke out in the blood bank of Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, in the early hours of Tuesday. The incident was promptly brought under control by security personnel after staff members on duty raised an alert. No injuries or casualties were reported, according to hospital authorities.
The fire was first noticed by employees present at the facility, following which security staff responded immediately and extinguished the flames before they could spread further.
Senior hospital officials, including the Director of Health Services, Medical Superintendent, Deputy Medical Superintendent, and the Blood Bank In-charge, reached the site soon after the incident and reviewed the situation.
In an official statement, hospital authorities said they had immediately taken necessary precautionary measures to secure the premises and ensure that blood bank operations continued without disruption.
A preliminary assessment indicated that the fire may have originated from a short circuit in an air conditioning unit located behind the blood bank facility.
Officials said there was no loss of life or injury in the incident. Initial inspections also found no significant damage to blood stocks, medical equipment, records, or hospital infrastructure. Authorities are continuing their assessment of the incident, while hospital services at the blood bank remain operational.
