Peaceful voting is underway in 85 panchayats of Kullu district in the second phase of the Panchayat polls

Voting for the second phase of Panchayati Raj elections is being conducted peacefully across 85 panchayats in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district on Wednesday, with enthusiastic participation from both young and elderly voters.

Polling began at 7 am and will continue till 3 pm. District authorities have established 487 polling stations for the elections and deployed 1,948 polling personnel along with nearly 974 security personnel to ensure the smooth conduct of the democratic exercise.

According to officials, 1,03,797 voters are eligible to cast their votes in the second phase. The district has a total of 3,17,476 registered voters, including 1,60,949 men and 1,56,527 women.

Elections are being held across various panchayats in Ani, Banjar, Bhuntar, Kullu, Naggar, and Nirmand development blocks.

Officials said polling has remained peaceful in all polling stations so far, with voters arriving steadily since morning to exercise their franchise.

A strong sense of enthusiasm was visible among first time voters and senior citizens. Young voters said they were excited to participate in the democratic process for the first time and described voting as an important opportunity that comes once every five years to elect representatives of their choice.

Many voters expressed hope that the elected representatives would work to develop villages and address local issues while taking all sections of society along.

Following the completion of polling, counting of votes for Panchayat Pradhan, Up Pradhan, and Panchayat members will begin. Counting for Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti members is scheduled to take place on May 31.
