Patiala, May 25
Three children died after a couple from Maujpur village in Mohali allegedly jumped into the Bhakra canal near Mandoli village in Patiala with them. The couple survived after being rescued by locals.
A 17-second video recorded before the incident has gone viral on social media. In the clip, the man alleges harassment by his parents and sisters, blaming them for forcing the family to take the extreme step.
According to police sources, the couple allegedly tied the hands and legs of the children before throwing them into the canal and then jumped in themselves. Divers later recovered the bodies of the children.
The deceased children were identified as Muskan (12), Rajveer Kaur (8), and Ekamjot Singh (14). Their bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital in Rajpura for post-mortem examination.
Police have taken the husband and wife into custody for questioning. Officials said a case is being registered based on the allegations made in the viral video. Further investigation is underway.
