Shimla, May 5
Wet weather conditions persisted across Himachal Pradesh with light to moderate rainfall reported in several parts of the state, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning affected areas including Shimla, Jubberhatti, and Sundernagar. The Meteorological Department has forecast that the wet spell will continue until May 10, barring a brief respite on May 9, and has issued warnings of thunderstorms and gusty winds across multiple districts.
According to the weather office, a yellow alert has been sounded for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour expected at isolated places. The warning is in place for most districts on Tuesday, excluding tribal regions of Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti, and for districts including Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla on Wednesday.
Rainfall activity remained significant over the past 24 hours. Dadahu in Sirmaur district recorded the highest precipitation at 46 mm, followed by Renukaji and Sangrah with 30 mm each. Baldwara received 27 mm of rainfall, while Mandi recorded 26.6 mm. Other areas, including Sarahan, Jatton Barrage, and Chopal, also witnessed notable rainfall.
Light rainfall was also recorded in several regions, including Poanta Sahib, Pachhad, Kasauli, Solan, and Sundernagar, as well as parts of Una, Bilaspur, Kangra, Kalpa, and Palampur.
Temperature variations were observed across the state. Tabo recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 3.5 degrees Celsius during the night, while Una registered the highest maximum temperature at 31 degrees Celsius during the day.
The Meteorological Department has also indicated that a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region from May 10, potentially influencing weather conditions further in the coming days.
