Bilaspur, April 24
A youth from Himachal Pradesh was allegedly cheated of more than Rs 20 lakh by two individuals who promised to arrange a study visa but failed to deliver, police said on Friday. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
According to the complaint filed by Nishant Thakur, a resident of Hamirpur district, the accused, Abhishek Kumar Sharma and Munish Sharma, took Rs 20,41,364 from him on the assurance that they would facilitate overseas education through a student visa.
The complainant alleged that, instead of arranging the visa, the accused used the funds for personal purposes, including the purchase of a vehicle. He also claimed that fake documents were created in his name to secure a loan and that his bank account was misused, leading to financial losses.
Police said a case has been registered and further investigation is in progress. Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Sandeep Dhawal confirmed the development.
