Chandigarh, April 14
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann announced on Tuesday that registration for a monthly financial assistance scheme for women has started, during an event marking Ambedkar Jayanti. Under the “Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna”, women from the general category will receive ₹1,000 per month, while those from Scheduled Castes will get ₹1,500.
The Punjab government issued a notification earlier this month to roll out the programme, a key promise made by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party ahead of the 2022 state elections. Registration has begun in several areas, including Adampur, Malout and Anandpur Sahib, and will be conducted at anganwadi centres, Sewa Kendras and local municipal offices.
Senior party leader Manish Sisodia said the enrolment process is expected to be completed within one to two months, with payments likely to begin from July.
Women aged 18 and above, registered as voters in Punjab and holding valid identity documents, are eligible. However, government employees, elected representatives and their spouses are excluded from the scheme.
