Mullanpur, April 1
Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during his team’s IPL 2026 match against Gujarat Titans.
The penalty was imposed under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences. According to an official media release, this was Punjab Kings’ first such offence of the season.
Despite the sanction, Punjab Kings began their campaign on a positive note, registering a three-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans.
The win was set up by an impressive bowling performance, with pacer Vyshak Vijayakumar and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal sharing five wickets between them to restrict Gujarat Titans to 162 for six.
In reply, Punjab Kings overcame a shaky batting display to chase down the target in 19.1 overs. Young Australian batter Cooper Connolly played a pivotal role, scoring an unbeaten 72 off 44 balls to guide his team to victory.
