Chandigarh, September 4
September 3 was a historic day for India at the Paris Paralympics as two Indians shared the podium of the top 3 in the Men’s High Jump T63 final. Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu secured silver and bronze respectively at this event.
Sharad Kumar soared with the height of 1.88 meters, managing to finish second behind Ezra Frech of the USA, who won gold by reaching a height of 1.94 meters, a new paralympic record. Mariyappan Thangavelu finished with a height of 1.85 m, securing a bronze. This win also made Mariyappan Thangavelu the first Indian paralympic athlete to win medals at three consecutive Games.
Men’s High Jump had athletes competing from both T42 and T63 categories. Both the Indian athletes were part of the T42 category.
