Chandigarh, November 25
The Punjab Police have arrested two men and seized hand grenades and a Glock pistol in what officials describe as a major breakthrough against cross-border arms smuggling. The State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in Fazilka made the arrests during an intelligence-led operation aimed at strengthening security across the state, in line with directives from Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. The Police identified the suspects as Vikram Singh of Chak Balochan Wala village and Prabhjot Singh, known as Prabh, of Chak Bazida village — both in Fazilka district. Officers also seized an unregistered motorcycle allegedly used in the operation.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary inquiries suggest the weapons were flown in from Pakistan using drones and were intended for criminal activity within Punjab. Investigators are now working to trace the wider network behind the delivery. AIG SSOC Fazilka, Gursewak Singh Brar, said officers moved in after receiving a tip-off, intercepting the men in the Jalalabad area as they were allegedly transporting the consignment to another group. More arrests are expected, he added.
Police have registered a case under the Arms Act and the Explosive Substances Act at SSOC Police Station in Fazilka.
