Punjab Police have busted a Pakistan-based narco-hawala syndicate in a major operation targeting trans-border drug smuggling networks. Sharing details, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday said that the operation was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Agency (CIA) wing of Ferozepur Police, which led to the recovery of 5.150 kilograms of heroin and ₹29,16,700 in drug money.
Two key handlers — Sajan, son of Ramesh, and Resham, son of Younis — have been arrested. The DGP said the accused were linked to a notorious Pakistan-based smuggler and were responsible for managing large heroin consignments and hawala transactions across Ferozepur and neighbouring districts. He said an FIR has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and investigations are underway to trace both the forward and backward linkages of the syndicate.
“This operation underscores our commitment to dismantling organized crime and drug networks operating from across the border,” Yadav said. “The Punjab Police will continue to act decisively against those involved in narco-terrorism and ensure the safety and security of citizens.” The DGP added that the force is maintaining close coordination with central agencies to curb cross-border smuggling and financial channels linked to drug trafficking.
