Officials in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula issued a flood alert on Friday after rising water levels in the Ghaggar river and the opening of floodgates at Sukhna Lake. The officials said the surge was caused by heavy rainfall in the catchment area. In Mohali, the district administration identified several villages as vulnerable, including Tiwana, Khajoor Mandi, Sadhanpur, Sarsini, Alamgir, Dangdhera, Mubarikpur, Mirpur and Bakarpur. Residents in these areas have been advised to stay alert and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
