Firing outside Kapil Sharma’s café in Canada, Khalistani terrorist claims responsibility

A newly opened café in Surrey, British Columbia, owned by Indian comedian and actor Kapil Sharma, came under attack on Thursday in what police are investigating as a targeted shooting incident.

Local law enforcement confirmed that multiple shots—reportedly at least nine—were fired at Kap’s Café, located in the heart of Surrey’s Punjabi business district. The incident occurred on late Thursday night, though no injuries were reported. Authorities have since cordoned off the area and are examining CCTV footage.

In a video circulating on social media, Harjit Singh Laddi—allegedly linked to the proscribed Khalistani terror group Babbar Khalsa International—claimed responsibility for the attack. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has yet to officially confirm this claim but has acknowledged receiving the video as part of its investigation.

Kapil Sharma is safe in Mumba. Sharma, who recently expanded into the hospitality sector, inaugurated the café earlier this year as a tribute to his roots and fans in the Indo-Canadian community.

The shooting has raised fresh concerns over the presence of extremist elements operating within Canada, particularly those linked to Khalistani separatist groups. India has previously urged the Canadian government to take stronger action against such organisations, which are designated as terrorist entities by New Delhi.
