Punjab Police have busted an international narco-arms module and a separate inter-state narco-hawala syndicate in a major intelligence-led operation in Amritsar, officials said on Friday. In the first case, three individuals—two of whom had recently returned from Malaysia—were arrested with five sophisticated pistols, including Glock and Chinese-made weapons, and one kilogram of heroin. According to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, the accused were working on instructions from handlers based in Pakistan and Malaysia, with plans to distribute the weapons across Punjab.
In a parallel operation, six more people were arrested in connection with a narco-hawala network spanning Delhi, Karnataka and Dubai. The police recovered ₹9.7 lakh in drug money and 150 grams of heroin from the syndicate, which was allegedly channeling proceeds to Dubai through illegal hawala transactions.
Combined recoveries from both modules included 1.15 kilograms of heroin, five pistols—three Glock 9mm and two Chinese pistols with cartridges—and ₹9.7 lakh in suspected drug proceeds.
First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered at Sadar and Islamabad Police Stations in Amritsar. The police said further investigations are underway to uncover both forward and backward linkages of the network.
