New Delhi, June 5

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked World Environment Day by planting a Sindoor sapling at his official residence, a gesture layered with environmental symbolism and patriotic sentiment. The sapling was a gift from the women of Kutch, Gujarat, who were hailed by the Prime Minister as “brave mothers and sisters” for their acts of courage and sacrifice during the 1971 India-Pakistan war.

Speaking about the gift in his post on X, Modi described the plant as a “living tribute” to the resilience and inspiration of Indian women. He said the Sindoor sapling would serve as a lasting reminder of the spirit of Nari Shakti (women power) that he witnessed during his recent visit to the region.
