The civil defence mock drills under the banner of ‘Operation Shield’, initially slated for Thursday across several states bordering Pakistan, have been postponed due to what officials described as “administrative reasons.” The exercises were scheduled to be conducted in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Chandigarh. According to officials familiar with the planning, the drills were intended to test the preparedness of civilian and administrative systems to respond to crises such as cross-border incursions, terror threats, or natural disasters.
