Mansa, May 28
Father of slain Punjabi singer and rapper Sidhu Moosewala, Balkaur Singh, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections from Mansa, saying the move is driven by his fight for justice for his son. Talking to reporters ahead of Moosewala’s death anniversary, Balkaur Singh said he had waited long enough for justice, but key culprits in his son’s daylight murder in Mansa still remain at large. “The constitution is under threat. People are being murdered in broad daylight across Punjab and the country. My son was gunned down in similar fashion, and even after all this time, not all those responsible have been brought to justice,” he said.
He criticised the Punjab government for its failure to act decisively on deteriorating law and order. “The situation in Punjab is getting worse, and the Chief Minister has taken no concrete steps to fix it,” Balkaur Singh said. Moosewala, a globally popular Punjabi artist, was shot dead in May 29, 2022, a killing that shocked fans worldwide and raised urgent questions about security and criminal networks operating in the region.
