Shimla, March 18
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has said he will take up the issue of posters of Khalistani hardliner Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale being pasted on Himachal Pradesh buses with his Punjab counterpart, Bhagwant Singh Mann. Addressing the state assembly, Sukhu confirmed that an FIR has already been registered in connection with the incident.
The Kullu district police have filed two First Information Reports (FIRs) against unknown individuals following the controversy. During the Zero Hour of the ongoing Budget Session, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur voiced concerns over reports of people entering Himachal Pradesh from Punjab carrying flags displaying Bhindranwale’s image. He also referenced a recent attack on a Himachal Roadways Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus in Punjab, urging the state government to ensure security measures.
One of the complainants, Subhash Thakur of Chhiyal village in Manali, alleged that he was threatened with murder after objecting to two motorcyclists carrying Bhindranwale’s flag on March 12. The flag was reportedly fixed to the front wheel of their two-wheeler.
