Security forces in Pakistan killed 30 militants and rescued more than 150 hostages in an operation following an attack on a Peshawar-bound train in Balochistan’s Bolan district, Pakistan-based news outlet The Express Tribune reported on Wednesday.
The Jaffar Express, carrying over 400 passengers in nine carriages, was traveling from Quetta to Peshawar when it was hijacked in the Dhadar area of the Bolan Pass on Tuesday.
Heavily armed assailants forced the train to stop in a remote mountainous region before storming aboard. The banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the assault. The militants also bombed the railway track before security forces launched a clearance operation, killing 30 attackers, , Pakistan-based news outlet reported quoting the security officials.
Security sources cited by the news outlet said the attackers were in contact with their handlers in Afghanistan.
