8 killed in Maharashtra Ordnance factory blast

At least eight people were killed and others trapped after a blast caused a roof to collapse at an ordnance factory in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district on Friday, officials said. The explosion occurred in the LTP section of the factory in Jawahar Nagar at around 10:30 a.m., the police said. “There are reports of 13-14 workers being trapped due to the roof collapse caused by the explosion. Five workers have been safely rescued,” Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on X, formerly Twitter. He added that the Bhandara Collector and Superintendent of Police were coordinating rescue efforts on-site. “SDRF and Nagpur Municipal Corporation teams are deployed for rescue operations, and medical assistance is on standby. Unfortunately, one worker has lost his life so far. My condolences to the family. We stand with them during this tough time,” Fadnavis added.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed grief over the incident. “Deeply saddened to know about the blast at the ordnance factory in Bhandara. My condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured,” Singh said on X. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also shared his condolences. “It is unfortunate that a worker died, and several others were trapped after the roof collapse at the ordnance factory. My prayers are with the affected families, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery,” Gadkari said.

Rescue operations are ongoing, with multiple teams engaged in efforts to retrieve the trapped workers and provide medical assistance to the injured.
