In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, police at Ani seized 7 kilograms of charas/cannabis during a naka checking operation at Nigan Chowk on May 21, 2026. A vehicle bearing registration number HR31V-1424 was stopped for inspection, during which a man and a woman, both residents of Haryana, were found in possession of the contraband substance.
Following the recovery, Ani Police Station registered a case against both accused under Sections 20 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police officials said intensive interrogation is underway to trace the source of the recovered narcotics, identify the supply chain and uncover the wider drug network linked to the case. Further investigation is in progress.
