Shimla, June 29

Former Union Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Anurag Singh Thakur on Monday visited the famous Jakhu Temple in Shimla and sought blessings from Lord Hanuman. He also participated in a plantation drive organised under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, promoting environmental conservation.

He said that a visit to Shimla is considered incomplete for many devotees without offering prayers at Jakhu Temple. He described the temple as not only a center of faith but also a symbol of positive energy and service towards the nation.

He said he prayed for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s good health, long life, and the success of the vision of a “developed India”.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is touching new heights, and the resolve of a developed India will become stronger with the blessings of Lord Hanuman,” Thakur said.

Highlighting the achievements of the central government, Thakur said the past 12 years under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership have been marked by service, good governance, welfare of the poor, and nation-building.

He said India, which was the world’s 10th-largest economy in 2014, has now become the fifth-largest economy and is among the fastest-growing major economies globally. He added that more than 25 crore people have moved out of poverty, while millions of families have benefited from housing, gas connections, sanitation facilities, bank accounts, tap water supply, and health security schemes.

Thakur also highlighted India’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the world’s largest vaccination drive, progress in defence self-reliance, digital governance reforms, and the country’s successful G20 presidency. He said India has emerged as a reliable nation capable of addressing global challenges.

Speaking about Himachal Pradesh, Thakur said the state has received unprecedented development support from the Center, including projects such as AIIMS Bilaspur, new medical colleges, expansion of national highways, improved railway and road connectivity, and welfare schemes.

He said that under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, 294 rural road projects worth Rs 2,247 crore were approved for Himachal Pradesh during 2025-26, with a central share of nearly Rs 2,019 crore.

Thakur added that the Center has continued to provide financial assistance to Himachal Pradesh through disaster reconstruction, capital investment, and infrastructure development. He also said the state has been receiving support through tax devolution and other central assistance programmes.

On the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Thakur said it remains a clear commitment of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He said the process has already begun in Uttarakhand, and other states may implement it gradually in the future.

Responding to a question on Pakistan, Thakur alleged that Pakistan has failed in several areas and has only promoted terrorism. He said that blaming India for Pakistan’s internal failures and instability has been a long-standing approach for Pakistan.

He added that India continues to progress while Pakistan is becoming increasingly isolated globally due to its policies.
