Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday performed the traditional ‘Pratham Puja’ at the Amarnath cave shrine, marking the ceremonial start of the annual Amarnath Yatra scheduled to begin on July 3.

During the puja, Sinha sought the blessings of Baba Barfani and prayed for peace, prosperity, good health, and the well-being of people, according to an official statement.

The Lieutenant Governor also appealed to devotees to participate in the pilgrimage in large numbers and experience the spiritual journey.

Sinha said the administration, the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, the Army, the police, the security forces, local communities, service providers, and volunteers were working together to ensure a safe, smooth, and memorable pilgrimage for devotees.

“With significantly upgraded infrastructure, enhanced facilities, and invaluable support of people, the authorities are fully prepared to welcome the devotees for a spiritually fulfilling journey,” Sinha said.

The Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board organises the Pratham Puja at the cave shrine every year on Jyeshtha Purnima as part of the traditional preparations for the pilgrimage.

The 57-day Amarnath Yatra will officially begin on July 3 through the two traditional routes, the Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the Baltal route in Ganderbal district. The pilgrimage will conclude on August 28 on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

DGP Nalin Prabhat, Special Director General (Coordination) S J M Gillani, SASB Chief Executive Officer Mandeep Bhandari, and Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg accompanied the Lieutenant Governor during the puja.

The administration has stated that preparations have been strengthened, with improved facilities and enhanced coordination among various agencies, to ensure a safe pilgrimage experience for devotees.
